Proving There’s No Age Limit In Hockey

When you find something you truly love, it’s for life. It doesn’t matter if you’re six or 100, you stick with it because it’s a part of you.
For Dean Skinner, his love of hockey knows no bounds. He joined the Spruce Grove Funtimers in 1984 and found his home. Now, 35 years later, he’s still as in love with hockey as he was that first day on the ice.
The Spruce Grove Funtimers are an ‘old timer’ team that plays no contact and no slap shot. With players from ages 21 to 65, they call themselves the Funtimers because they don’t consider themselves old. (They are anything but old!)
As Funtimer president, treasurer, scheduler and social convener, Dean has his hands full.
When Dean’s brother-in-law suggested TeamSnap to help with organization and team management, Dean knew he found the solution to keep his sanity.
The Funtimers use Teamsnap to schedule all of their games and to keep track of where and when events take place. Using availability, players can indicate if they can attend a game or event.
“I can email the players for cancelled games or last-minute changes,” says Dean. “TeamSnap makes communication so much easier, as I don’t have to call each player to relay the same message over and over again. It’s been very helpful for me.”
The team plays around 40 games a year, practice hard and laugh harder. We are proud to support so many amazing groups of people like the Funtimers who share our passion for team sports and activities.
Whether it’s hockey, soccer or chess club, all sports and activities are created equal. You play it, we support it — from youth and adult teams to recreational and competitive teams, to everything in between. Log in or sign up to add your team now.
